 The Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) is a multi-stage national science talent search examination conducted online through a unique app-based platform. The examination is structured to evaluate students from Classes VI to XI across four distinct levels.

Students undergo a tiered testing process starting from school-level online exams and progressing to national camps.
1. Level-I: School-Level Online Examination
  • Format: 90-minute online exam with 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each worth 1 mark.
  • Segments:
    • Section-A (40 questions): Focuses on "Indian Contributions to Science" and the "Life Story of Satyendra Nath Bose".
    • Section-B (60 questions): Based on the VVM Syllabus (NCERT/State Board textbooks) and Logic and Reasoning.
  • Qualifying Rule: Section-B is only evaluated if a student secures 50% or more (at least 20 marks) in Section-A.
  • Success Reward: All successful participants qualify for Level-II.
2. Level-II: School-Level Online Examination (Proctored)
  • Format: 45-minute proctored online exam with 50 MCQs (Multiple Correct Answers), each worth 2 marks.
  • Negative Marking: -0.5 marks for each incorrect answer.
  • Segments:
    • Section-A (15 questions/30 marks): Indian Contributions to Science and Scientist Life Story.
    • Section-B (35 questions/70 marks): VVM Syllabus (NCERT/State Board) and Logic and Reasoning.
  • Selection for SLC: The top 25 rankers from each class for every state move to Level-III.
3. Level-III: State Level Camp (SLC)
  • Focus: A one or two-day camp involving application-oriented MCQs, hands-on activities, observation, analysis, and situational problem-solving.
  • Selection for National Camp: The top 2 rankers from each class in each state qualify.
4. Level-IV: National Camp (NC)
  • Focus: A two-day event featuring presentations, scientific understanding activities, innovation, creativity assessments, and leadership evaluations.
  • Outcome: Selection of "Himalayans" (National Winners) and Zonal Winners.

Class-Wise Syllabus Breakdown
The syllabus is divided based on school curriculum (NCERT/State Boards) and specialized VVM study materials provided digitally.
Group-Specific Syllabus (VVM Study Material)
VVM provides specific reading materials like "Measurement of Time" with the following requirements:
  • Junior Group (Classes VI, VII, & VIII): Chapters 1 to 7 (Measurement of Time, Solar Day, Weekday, Fortnight, Lunar Mansions, Lunar Day, Month), Chapter 15 (Indian National Calendar), Chapter 16 (Indian Standard Time), and Chapter 20 (The Calendar that Never Came into Existence).
  • Senior Group (Classes IX, X, & XI): The complete book (Chapters 1 to 20), including complex concepts like intercalary months, different types of years, and the precession of equinoxes.
Curriculum-Based Syllabus (50%–60% Weightage)
This segment aligns with textbooks from NCERT and various state boards.
  • Science & Mathematics: Based on the respective class's standard curriculum.
  • Example (Class X Specific Topics):
    • Physics: Light (Reflection and Refraction), Effects of Current (Ohm’s Law, Magnetism).
    • Chemistry: Chemical Reactions, Acids/Bases/Salts, Metals, Carbon Compounds.
    • Biology: Life processes, Heredity and variation, Human Eye, Environment.
    • Mathematics: Number Theory, Algebra (Quadratic Equations, Progressions), Geometry, Trigonometry, Mensuration, and Probability.
General Reading and Reasoning (10% Weightage)
  • Logic and Reasoning: Covers coding-decoding, logical sequences, blood relations, visual puzzles, Sudoku, data sufficiency, and spatial visualization.
  • Scientist Biography: For the current cycle, the focus is on Satyendra Nath Bose: Father of Bosons.
  • Indian Contributions to Science: Comprehensive study of India's historical and modern scientific achievements
